Event Details

This will be an early show starting at 7:30pm.

The duo first met in the early 2000s…she was his booking agent…they reconnected in 2018 (at the Iron Horse Pub)…and here we are. Crow and Gazelle might be a new name to you, in theory, but if you’re familiar with the folk, Americana and Red Dirt music scenes in Oklahoma and Texas, its members are likely not. CG is one part Mike McClure, the singer, songwriter, artist and producer who’s been making music in the region for nearly three decades. It’s also one part Chrislyn Lawrence, who is also a creative director, videographer, community organizer, poet, and yoga teacher. The duo is a hymnodic, moving collaboration borne out of the connection between two people healing, loving, and growing together. Their songs—built around their entangled close harmonies and sparse, reverent acoustic instrumentation—are wrought out of the love they have come to find for themselves and for each other. Their debut outing, As Above Now So Below, which will be released on April 26, 2024, is an album centered on acceptance and growth in the face of pain… and on embracing the sacred nature within each and every one of us. In each song on their upcoming album, and throughout their live shows, crow and gazelle reach deep inside themselves, and the audience, to connect and feel a way through complex emotions. Alongside themes of grief and addiction, anxiety and spiritual reckonings, there are themes of hope and light throughout. Because we are not one thing – sometimes we are all things, all at once. It’s an offering to the shared possibility of love that vibrates through each and every one of us. “Our coming together has created a whole new path for us both. And our live shows just keep getting better and more powerful. It’s more than just two people in a band, and it’s so much deeper than just us. We gather around one microphone, while our spirits and voices envelop each other, and the audience—it’s the very essence of interconnected harmony. I think our music and our shows are a reflection of the human potential – to allow our full range of emotions, flowing from grief to joy, held by another’s understanding. It’s part of some bigger cosmic contract. So we’re doing everything we can to honor it.” The Duo will play songs from McClure’s long catalogue and songs off their upcoming new album.

JAMES COOK: Drawing inspiration from evocative stories around the Red River, the Wichita Falls, TX native’s penchant for superb narrative lyrics and riveting vocals delivers an impactful punch for this rootsy collection of songs that blends folk-rock, country and Southern blues hues, with equal parts grit, sorrow and heart. Momentum began to build for Cook after he won the 2015 Rattle Magazine Songwriter Award who went on to say “…truly an original Americana artist, with the twisting of genres that blossom into his own invention. He incorporates the country, rock and blues, with a dash of grit and salt that makes the hairs stand on end when you hear him play. You can feel it in his writing that he pours over every word in detail until it’s perfect.” He was also a finalist for the Blue Light, Larry Joe Taylor, and Texas Music Pickers competitions. Since then, Cook has released two albums and has been touring these past years with his band with a raw, energetic show that has opened doors like the Outlaws and Legends Festival, MusicFest in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, 2019 Ranch Bash in Ft Worth, TX three Top 40 singles on the TRRR Charts.
