Throughout the course of his musical career, Luke Walker has won over the hearts of music lovers from all walks of life. Performing at a variety of venues and making countless public appearances all the while staying busy in the recording studio, Luke has earned the admiration and affection of critics and fans alike. Luke Walker is a singer/songwriter and producer based out of Austin, TX. From country ballads to moody blues his music has a way of grabbing you by the heart strings and not letting go until the very end. Luke has never been bound by a single genre, drawing inspiration from the many different performers and styles that came before him. Throughout a performance or while listening to an album, you might find yourself dancing at one moment, and sinking into the melody the next. Early Life Luke was born in Wichita Falls, TX. While learning all the life lessons that a typical 5-year-old learns, Luke was also learning how to play the piano. He was also learning how to sing. His mother had a beautiful voice, and always encouraged him to sing in a choir. In middle school he began playing the violin, only to drop it for sports and playing outside. It was in junior high, however, when he picked up a guitar for the first time, which soon became his weapon of choice. That same year he attended his first open mic at The Iron Horse Pub. At 13 he got on the stage with the big X’s on his hands and played in front of a crowd for the very first time. His freshman year of highschool he started playing guitar in the church band, backing all of the worship leaders who sang at the church. During his highschool years he was more focused on girls and partying rather than music or school, and upon graduating he began to attend Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. That same year Luke wrote his first song. While in college, Luke starting gigging and, over time, he had played every venue that his small hometown had to offer. He also began to realize that his passion was the stage. At 21, he decided to pack up what few things he had and moved to Austin, Texas. Little did he know what was in store for him next. A New Chapter Right out of the gate Luke attended all the open mics he could. A few months into his Austin tenure he got his first gig at B.D. Riley’s, on 6th St. He soon befriended a booking agent in town who got him gigs throughout Austin and he began to play frequently on a weekly basis. At 23, he started his own Open Mic Night at Posse East which became a hot-spot for local musicians each week. There he met Rich Baur, who became his full-time drummer/producer/friend. Together they would release Luke’s first studio album, “Runnin’”. At 26 he began working with producer Amin Emam in Dallas, and soon landed a monthly residency at the House of Blues Foundation Room. in 2018, Luke and Rich made music video for the song “A Piece of Texas” from his album “Runnin’” and entered it into Thin Line Fest in Denton. In spectacular fashion they won the “True Texas Travel Experience” category, and Luke got to read the speech he prepared. Texas Highways Magazine was a sponsor of the festival and hired Luke and his team to make similar videos about different destinations throughout Texas. What resulted was a web series called “A Piece of Texas”, which puts the beauty of Texas and the people within it on display. Present Today Luke is playing regularly with his band and staying busy in the recording studio. He just released his 4th studio album and is preparing on his 5th. The country boy who moved to the big city never thought he would become… an award winning film maker, music producer, wedding singer, open mic host, voiceover actor, actor, web series creator, banjo playin’ hit makin’ ambassador of Texas. And he’s only just begun.
